2nd Meeting of CAPCA’s Book Club

Date : January 24, 2026 5:00 pm To January 24, 2026 7:00 pm

Calling all bookworms!

CAPCA is hosting its second book club meeting to discuss Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese. The meeting will take place on Saturday, January 24, at 4:00 pm. Note new time: 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm! Cutting for Stone (2009) was written by Ethiopian-born, Indian-American medical doctor and author Abraham Verghese. It is a saga of twin brothers born in Ethiopia, orphaned by their mother’s death and forsaken by their father. Spanning continents and generations, Cutting for Stone is an unforgettable story of love and betrayal, compassion and redemption, exile and home that unfolds across five decades in India, Ethiopia, and America.

The book club meeting will be led by CAPCA board member Leslie Piotrowski (Philippines 1983-85). She is a member of two book clubs and the debut author of a book coming out later this year.

Copies of the book should be readily available at libraries. This is a good time to reserve your copy. The book can also be purchased on Bookshop.org for $18.64.

If you are taking public transportation, the bookstore is located about a block east of the Davis Street Station on the Purple and Metra Lines. If you are driving, there should be ample parking in front of the store.  Two hours of parking will cost $2.85.

The bookstore includes a coffee and wine bar.
