Rev. McCay, a Kansas City native and University of Kansas graduate, joined Peace Corps in 1990, serving in both Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire. Immersed in West Africa, he developed a deep appreciation for its rich traditions, history, and varied cultures and languages. After completing his service, he spent six months traveling through West Africa, Europe, and the U.S., further exploring global connections before settling in Chicago.
With a career spanning governmental entities, nonprofits, international NGOs, and a foreign stock market, Rev. McCay has remained committed to youth and community development. His seminary preparation was at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, and he earned a Graduate Certificate from Northwestern University’s Program on African Studies. He and his wife, Dr. Michele McCay, live in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood of Grand Boulevard.
